When performing surgery on mice and rats became a prime responsibility of my job, I invented a system that made my workplace safer by reducing exposure to the anesthetic gas that escapes into the environment, into the air we breathe. Over the years, many people encouraged me to bring this valuable system to the market. With 10 years of experience in small animal practice (prior to working in laboratory animal medicine), I knew this system would not only help laboratory animal technicians, it would also be a valuable addition to small animal veterinary clinics, humane societies, and zoos.

What drives you to be a business owner?

It’s in my genes. My dad was a business owner. He was very creative. He encouraged me to be bold and unafraid to take ideas and turn them into marketable products.

How has the Entrepreneurship Center at WCC helped with your business goals?

The Entrepreneurship Center at WCC has an extraordinary program for their participants (Pitch@WCC), including valuable workshops and resources to help build a marketing strategy. Also available are opportunities to meet one-on-one with experienced business owners who are more than happy to offer advice and assistance.

If you could offer one piece of advice for fellow entrepreneurs or prospective entrepreneurs, what would it be?

Talk to people about your idea! Don’t be afraid to tell people what it is you are planning to do. Seek people out who can give feedback on the idea followed by the design of a new product. Give them a product to sample and listen to the feedback they give. These people will become your champions.
