Defrost and Delight in Winter Welcome Day Jan. 23

At first glance, the WCC Winter Welcome Day on Wednesday, Jan. 23, will resemble an indoor carnival. But Briannah Henderson, a child care professional major and veteran of several campus Welcome Days, said the event has so much more to offer students.

“It’s a great way to meet people and make new friends with other students,” said Henderson, who works part time in the Student Activities office. “At first, you come to campus telling yourself that you’re only here for the classes. But once you find out what WCC has to offer on Welcome Day, you’ll realize how much you might have missed. College students are all about fun, and WCC is a really fun place.”

Henderson will be there along with food vendors sharing free samples and helpful staff answering questions about sports opportunities, job search support, tuition assistance, scholarships, mentoring programs, non-credit and online offerings, adaptive technology for the classroom, and campus services such as Campus Safety and Security, the copy center, and the bookstore.

“This year students can play table games and connect in our new community room,” said Rachel Barsch, who is coordinating the event. “We’re bringing back the wax hands and airbrush tattoo stations, too, and we’ll have a wheel that students can spin for prizes. We’re also excited to feature a performance by the local dance troupe Patchwerk. One of its founding members is a former WCC student.”

The WCC Welcome Day fun takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Student Center building. All activities are free to students. For more information, contact Student Activities at 734-973-3500.
