Abernethy Named WCC Interim Vice President for Instruction

WCC has named Dean of Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences Dr. William Abernethy as Interim Vice President for Instruction. The appointment is effective immediately.

Abernethy began his tenure at WCC in 1993 as an English instructor. He has held progressive academic roles at the college including department chair and dean. He also played a key leadership role in the college’s successful accreditation renewal and innovative strategic planning process.

“Bill has a strong academic career and will provide true academic leadership excellence as Interim Vice President of Instruction,” said WCC President Rose Bellanca. “I am very pleased to welcome him to his new role.”

Abernethy received a bachelor’s degree in English and German and a master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Oregon. He received a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin. He has taught at the University of Oregon, University of Wisconsin, and worked at the University of Michigan as research editor and adjunct faculty. He currently resides in Chelsea with his wife Laura Kasischke.
