Want to play sports just for fun, without any commitment to a team? Then drop-in sports are for you.

During the summer, the WCC Sports office offers a number of drop-in sports at the WCC athletic fields, which are across the street from the main campus. The available sports include soccer, basketball, sand volleyball, softball, and kickball.

Drop-in sports “give students and the community a chance to stay active, meet some new people, and participate in sports for fun,” said Erica Lemm, coordinator of the WCC Sports office. “All skill levels are welcome.”

Anyone can participate in drop-in sports—WCC students, employees, and members of the community. “Anyone can show up,” Lemm said. “They don’t need any equipment—we provide it all.” There’s no charge to participate. There also are no age registrations, although those under 18 must have a parent sign a waiver.

Drop-in sports are available on the following schedule through Aug. 15:

  • Monday: Soccer and basketball
  • Tuesday: Sand volleyball and softball/kickball
  • Wednesday: Soccer and basketball
  • Thursday: Sand volleyball and softball/kickball

All drop-in sports start at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, participants who show up for softball/kickball decide together which sport they’ll play. “It’s really up to them,” Lemm said.

Every drop-in event is attended by a staff member from the WCC Sports office who is trained in first aid and CPR.

You can get more information about drop-in sports by visiting the WCC Sports office on the first floor of the Student Center building or contacting Lemm at 734-973-3720 or [email protected].
