This advanced certificate provides advanced training for child care professionals, as well as paraprofessionals in school settings. It is the second level of a 3-tier training program for adults who work with children younger than 12. It is intended for students who are employed in a program that serves children younger than 12 in a group setting.
In addition to your CDA curriculum earned in Tier 1, you will study Child Development, Health, Safety and Nutrition, as well as learn techniques for classroom management.
This is a high demand program as defined by the Michigan Community College Network.

2018-2019 Academic Requirements
This certificate provides advanced training for child care professionals, and for paraprofessionals in school settings. It is the second level of a three-tier training program for adults who work with children under age 12. It is intended for students who are employed in a program that serves children under age 12 in a group setting.
Students must have one of the following to enter this program: completion of a two-year
vocational child care certificate; a CDA certificate; 12 credits in child care or
elementary education; or concurrent enrollment in the Child Development Certificate
program (CTCDA). Completion of the CTCDA is required before completing the Child Care
and Education Advanced Certificate.
Students in the program are assumed to be employed in a program that serves children
under age 12 in a group setting.
